In order to safely operate a vehicle in Essex County, Massachusetts it is important that you maintain a safe driving distance from other vehicles. The amount of space you should leave between you and the car in front of you depends on a variety of factors. These factors include the speed at which you are traveling, the conditions on the road and the weight of your vehicle. It is a good idea to keep more distance between you and the car in front of you if you are traveling at a high rate of speed, your vehicle is heavy or the conditions of the road are slippery or icy. This can help you to have enough time to react and avoid a car accident should the vehicle in front of you stop suddenly or become involved in an accident.
Maintaining a safe driving distance may have been able to help drivers avoid a seven-car accident in Canton, Massachusetts recently. A 23-year-old driver of an Audi was traveling northbound on I-95 at around 2:09 a.m. when he slammed into the guardrail. The impact caused the car to spin around. Another car collided with the Audi which eventually led to a seven-car pileup.
Many of the occupants in the cars were transported to area hospitals for treatment of their injuries. One passenger, a 71-year-old woman, succumbed to her injuries and died at the hospital.
Those involved in this accident may wish to speak with a personal injury attorney about their right to compensation for their pain and suffering, medical bills and damages done to their vehicles.
